Catching Zs

Randomly, where I happened to be on Sunday morning, was where A bunch of Fatlady Z enthusiasts were having a meet. 

Yes FATlady. That wasn't a typo. Back in the 240 days she may have been slender and fair but in her old age she's filled out quite a bit. 

 That probably explains the immense popularity of the 350Z and 370Z in the States. 

Just the briefest glance at any piece of pop culture from The Empire reveals an un-natural love for, overly rotund behinds...
usually being gyrated vigorously at the camera.

The best Tokyo Auto Salon 2017 on YouTube (Even if I say so myself), Shot in 4K UHD on  on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus using Mavis.

This is the one you've been waiting for!

It's that time of the year again, and as in years past, Akihabaranews sent me to Makuhari Messe to capture images of Stanced rides and stilletoed companions . Unlike years past however, My camera was off at Sony for repairs and so I was forced to extract as much as I could out of my iPhone 7 Plus. Much to my surprise, for stills, with clever lighting, it churned out some impressive results.

It wasn't as good at video, but using the Mavis app, controlling exposure, and recording at a higher bit-rate did do some to help the video quality. Add motion and some fancy cuts to help people not focus on the noisy shadows and, as it turns out, something halfway decent can be extracted out of Apple's latest Flagship.

It's not going to be replacing my Sony a7S anytime soon. But for the regular folks out there who are far less worried about quality and aren't quite up at the enthusiast photographer level, I don't see any reason to spend money on any camera.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2015 - A Preview.

I hit up the Tokyo Auto Salon once again this year, and as always it gets better each year. This year I rekindled some old contacts and made some new ones. There is a lot of sifting, retouching and admin, as well as a whole bunch of video editing needed to get all the content ready and out to where it's going to be published, but for now, here is a small taste of what is coming.

Thanks to to the intro of a mate of mine, I also got to to meet and greet the LB Perfomance crew. I also met the man behind all their illustration and graphic design. Who is, like Just about everyone in the automotive world it seems, a really cool guy. I now need to capitalize on some of those contacts and dig myself deeper into the industry. If I'm going to be doing media job, I'd prefer to do them for rev-heads and yankii businesses than the impersonal corporates power-suit suit ones.

At the Tokyo Toy show there was a display of classic Star Wars toys and amongst them was an interesting R2 unit. I suppose he always was a 'versatile' little droid.

Japan is churning out  pre-pubescent plastic, lip syncing idols faster than Toru Hashimoto can say something stupid. But to those of us who look at this bizarre mutation of pop music from the outside, what could possibly make them such a popular and powerful force, is unfathomable.
Invariably we are left with a number of questions, that no matter how hard we try, we can never answered. As a result, we could never understand what it's all about... UNTIL NOW.

While shooting the Tokyo International Toy Show for Akihabara News, I managed to shoot the single best idol photo I have ever seen. It is the Idol scene's 42. The ultimate answer to any possible question regarding Idols, Idol Music, Idol fans and the multibillion yen industry that is the Idol.

Okay so did every other press photographer at the NTT docomo summer launch... but I was there

 and I shot him! SO THERE! 

He was one of the celebrities who star in docomo's new commercials and he was there saying a bunch of positive stuff about docomo's phones that they payed him to say (as one does)

Though when he wasn't earning his paycheque, he didn't really seem like he wanted to be there.

I also shot Tori Matsuzaka, Maki Horikita and Satomi Ishihara.

Tokyo Anime Fair 2010-03-26

This year Luka and David joined me and we made an outing of the event to shoot an episode of Shin Yamato Damacy.
So what is the Tokyo Anime Fair? Its an Anime Fair in Tokyo. that's it. Animation companies sell their wares to buyers from all over the globe. It Japan’s biggest commercial anime exhibit featuring all the big and many small names in the Animation industry in Japan.

Like Tokyo Auto Salon this year… it was hit by the recession. It was a record event in so far as visitor numbers are concerned, but unlike 2009, the stands were a bit underwhelming.
Maybe Last year I was hit with the HOLY CRACK WHORE wowness of being in Japan and being at a real live anime event in the land of the rising sun so It seemed more than it really was. but I honestly was not blown away this time.

I did have fun however… and I do know that there is some interesting stuff, like a new 3d Captain Harlock and a new Trigun movie coming out… of course there was K-On season 2’s promotion aswell. I discovered Peeping Life which looks at least as awesome as The World of Golden Eggs and I found a sweet company that prints T-Shirts. As for new anime… It may have been me but there was no big huzzah about anything unlike last year.

there were lovely ladies though… there are always lovely ladies at these things. So I guess not all was lost. and yeah It was awesome to be real press for a day. and even more awesome actually interviewing peeps for the next SYD (its been delayed by the same thing that has delayed this blog in the last week)
