Tied Hog - One sexy beast of a bike - #TokyoStreets

I love the look of cruisers. While I'd most likely get a sport bike when the time comes, there is something about the cruiser that encompasses the motorcycle experience in a way that no other style of bike can. This bousozoku-ish example spotted in the Higashi-Nipponbash area of Tokyo manages to exemplify the best of both the cruiser world and the underground, rebellious bent nail that refuses to give in to the monolithic, monstrous hammer that is Japanese society. While i didn't see the owner, I have a feeling that he/she and I could probably enjoy a good chat over a few beers.

Going Ape

I took a ride down to Enoshima yesterday, partially because I could partially because I wanted to get some longer distance experience on Matt's bike. While I was there I decided to take some photos of it.

HONDA APE 50 HONDA APE 50 HONDA APE 50 HONDA APE 50

It's a tiny bike too small for me both from a size and an engine capacity standpoint but considering I'm being lent it for the price of whatever parts are needed to keep it running, I am not complaining too much. That said, due to it's size compared to my wide ass, I'm gonna need to get a carrier rack of sorts cos any rides over an hour long are going to be hell on my lower back with a backpack (this ride was 3 and a half hours -__- )

It was great weather for a ride though, not cold, but not too hot. And riding along the coast is always going to be awesome. These longer rides are not going to be a regular thing though. It just takes too damn long on the 50cc to get anywhere. I need to work toward having a steady monthly income so I can get my car back and use that for longer drives and eventually get my proper bigger bike license and get a 250cc for close commutes and city travel.

Till then this will keep me going. Even with the fatiguing ride, having the freedom to go wherever the hell I want whenever I want, is EPIC. It took about as long as the train to get to the coast and it was more tiring, but there was so much less stress and I found some interesting things along the way that I'd never find on the steel tubes of misery. The bike was also way cheaper. This trip cost me about ¥400 as opposed to almost ¥1500 on the zombie line.

A Legendary Ride (Matt's Honda Ape 50cc)

Matthew James Jewell's legendary Honda APE 50

This bike belongs to the legendary Matthew James Jewell.

Andrew has taken care of it for the past few years and it has served him admirably in that time.

Since he doesn't ride it anymore and I rather desperately need transportation, Andrew is passing it on to me. It is still in his name but I'll be riding and taking care of it for the time being.

Once the Jibaiseki hoken (mandatory insurance... ie: more stupid, unnecessary taxes) is renewed You can expect that I will be a drastically happier man being freed from the shackles of the trains. When it isn't raining at least.

Matt may no longer be, but his legend lives on and even now, It appears that he's got my back.

Terra Motors, Japan’s very own electric vehicle startup (no stranger to Akihabara News), is preparing to launch their A4000i smartphone-enabled electric scooter this summer, and they recently invited us to the MONO startups space in Tokyo Bay to get up close and personal with it.

I got to check out and ride Terra Motors' new electric scooter: the A4000i.

Honda’s New NM4 Concept Bike Straight out of Cyberpunk Anime (AkihabaraNews.com)

At the 30th annual Osaka Motorcycle Show on March 21 2014, Honda unveiled two preview concepts of their new NM4.

Honda's new concept bike looks like it’s straight out of a late 80s, early 90s vision of 2014, and they intend to put it into production. Yes. Get one in red, cover it in stickers, ride around Neo Tokyo being a delinquent. (‘Akira,’ anyone?)
