This is Tokyo

I'm not a fan of the Tokyo stereotypes. Especially the selectively chosen ones deliberately chosen to entice tourists and otaku, while deliberately hiding the harsh, rude, dirty realities of the city. But stereotypes exist for a reason, and sometimes, Tokyo really can look like the post cards.

Catching Zs

Randomly, where I happened to be on Sunday morning, was where A bunch of Fatlady Z enthusiasts were having a meet.

gunma japan

Yes FATlady. That wasn't a typo. Back in the 240 days she may have been slender and fair but in her old age she's filled out quite a bit.

gunma japan

That probably explains the immense popularity of the 350Z and 370Z in the States.

Just the briefest glance at any piece of pop culture from The Empire reveals an un-natural love for, overly rotund behinds...
usually being gyrated vigorously at the camera.
Basically, drifting Zs

Cyberpunk Tokyo (I don't always post cars)

While I wait for backups before I re-install windows, I thought I'd get three pics I took recently with a 5Dmk4. Despite it's lack of dynamic range, it did hold up to my rather DR heavy custom lightroom preset. These were shot in Akasaka Mitsuke, which at the best of times is nowhere near as interesting as these pictures make it seem.

Sakura Nights #RandomJapan

Approaching midnight, in a quiet residential park, in a bed-town southwest of the Tokyo madness, the atmosphere is as perfect as the sakura.

Tokyo Bay nightscapes

I had the opportunity to see a view that's way above my pay-grade. It'd be rude not to share it.

Whenever I see it like this, It's always such a beautiful city. Much like it's 36 million inhabitants though, the beautiful facade often hides a dirty, cold, selfish, rotten core... but damn it looks fine.

Shibuya Static #TokyoStreets

Another Instagram piece that Instagram quality just doesn't do proper justice to. That said, It was on Instagram ages ago... so there is that, Incidentally, watermark aside, this shot is all in-camera. No lightroom processing for a change.

Tokyo Trueno #JapaneseRides

A well kept AE86 is not the most common sight in Japan these days, One that isn't Initial D coloured, even more so. To spot one in Tokyo, of all places, however, is an absolute treat.

Shots#112 Spring Peach Blossom Festival in Nagano.

While the Sakura had come and were starting to go in Tokyo, further north, in Chikuma City, Nagano, The apricot blossoms had just started to bloom. The city is known for it's apricots and as a result Spring is heralded in by the apricot, rather than the Cherry blossom (which comes a bit later). There is also a small event at a local shrine to commemorate the blooming of the apricot trees and the coming of spring... But the weather decided that spring can wait. It must be said though, that these ladies deserve som emad props for continuing to dance even as biting cold winds stirred a blizzard around them.
